Saturday, April 24 – 8:30 am- Meet at Petro Can Hwy. 1: Mount Yamanuska & Cochrane Café (AL/MOD), Hwy. 1A near Canmore

Distance: 8 km + 400 meters elevation gain: 3-4 hours hiking  

Description: Mount John Laurie is more usually known as Yamanuska, a Stoney name that means Wall of Stone. We’ll hike up on good trails to the base of the wall of stone. This is a good spring warm-up hike! After the hike we’ll head to Canmore to replenish lost calories.

 

Sunday, May 2 – 8:30 am- Meet at Allen Bill: Prairie Creek, Elbow Valley, Kananaskis

 

NEW MEET PLACE & HIKE: Saturday, May 8 –8:30 am- Meet at Petro Can Hwy. 1: Prairie View (MOD) – Hwy. 40, Kananaskis

Distance: 12 km + 500 m elevation gain: 5 hours hiking time.

Description: A single-track trail climbs through the trees to a fantastic viewpoint. An optional climb to the fire lookout rewards you with panoramic views. The descent follows the fire road through the tress back to Barrier Dam.    

 

Saturday, May 29 –8:00 am - Meet at Anderson LRT: Fir Creek Ridge /Grass Pass & Black Diamond Café (AL/MOD) – Highwood Trail (Hwy. 541), Kananaskis

Distance:  10 km + 400 meters elevation gain: 4 hours hiking

Description: Fir Creek is in the Bull Creek Hills, in the southern part of Kananaskis, not far from Longview . You’ll hike along grassy slopes, past limber pines and spring flowers to a vast panorama of prairie and peaks. 

 

Intermediate Hikes

 

Sunday, April 11 – 8:00 am- Meet at Brentwood LRT (or, upon request, at Allen Bill Meet Place , Hwy. 66):

Prairie Mountain Hike Training (MOD/INT), Elbow Falls Trail (Hwy. 66), Kananaskis

Distance: 8 km + 716 m elevation gain: 4 hours hiking time.

Description:  The perfect hike for spring conditioning since it is steep and steady! From the summit you’ll enjoy panoramic of the Rockies and the Prairies.

 

MEET PLACE CHANGE! Saturday, June 5– 8:30 am - Meet at Allen Bill Meeting Place: Forgetmenot Ridge (INT), Elbow Falls Trail (Hwy. 66), Kananaskis 

Distance:  14 km + 740 m elevation gain: 6-7 hours hiking

Description: Breathtaking views are your reward for a steep and strenuous climb. Mountains Glasgow , Cornwall , Outlaw and Banded Peak ; a panoramic view of these mountain are your constant companions throughout the hike.
