Well Researched Routes

Lori, the owner of Fit Frog Adventures and and your
volunteer guide for most Club Fit Frog outings,
has guided over 1000 off-the-beaten path hikes in the City of Calgary and over 400
Rocky Mountain hikes since starting Fit Frog in the spring of 1997. Check out
her book, Calgary's Best Hikes and
Walks for route maps, kid-friendly trails, historical hikes, fitness
routes and how to dress for year-round outdoor activity. Her book Calgary's
Best Bike Rides and Trails leads you on all new routes following
Calgary's extensive pathway system. These outings are perfect for biking longer
distances on your own or with the kids, running, roller blading or for longer
urban treks.
Fit Frog
guides and coordinators are upbeat, fun and extremely professional. They have lots of experience
leading groups in the great outdoors. All guides are fully insured and certified in
Wilderness First Aid.

The
full
day mountain hikes, snowshoe and ski days are tested and rated before you hit the trails with
Club Fit Frog. The
rating system categorizes hikes into four levels of difficulty based on the
terrain, elevation gain and total distance of the hike. Most of our hikes and
winter outings take
place in the rocky mountains of Kananaskis Country but we also hike in the
Whaleback to the south, the Badlands to the east, and on the Prairie Grasslands.

Education
Learn about footwear, packs, knee health and walking
sticks. Get off the beaten path and onto uneven, earthy terrain to improve your
balance and core stability. We'll show you hill climbing techniques that help
you pace for pleasure and endurance. Yes, hills can be fun!
Bears and bugs; tracks and scat! When you
join Club Fit Frog on mountain hikes you learn to be aware of your environment. Let's
just say that a pile of scat (poop, no laughing) will become quite interesting
when you hike with Fit Frog!!
And if you want to learn more about how to stay found in the wilderness, just
check out our Navigation
and Route Finding Course!
Training
The best way to train for hiking is to get off the pavement and onto some uneven earthy terrain.
A new trend in walking is called Nordic Walking.
This is simply walking with poles and at Club Fit Frog, we have been using poles
while hiking since our start-up. Using poles while hiking helps prevent knee
injuries, it increases your upper body workout and improves stability. So join
us for some fitness treks through the city. Backpack in tow and hiking poles in hand, you'll be ready for Kananaskis day treks and multi-day West Coast Trail
adventures.

Diversity (no boredom fitness)

North, south, east and
west; city hike locations change nightly and weekend mountain outings change with the
season.
Safety
A gang of frogs never worries when walking!
Challenging
All urban hikes are a combination of flat
stretches with stair and hill options. The Calgary Hiking Training outings have
more stairs and hills than the city hikes for those of you addicted to elevation
gain and sweat. On all urban hikes we encourage participants to pace for
pleasure.
Club weekend hikes and snowshoe
days are rated based on level of difficulty. You
pick the outing that suits your fitness level and interest.
Pace Yourself Fitness
On urban hikes, you may power ahead to the stairs and do a few sets
before the group arrives or simply hang back and enjoy the fresh-air and the
sights. When you hit the trails with Club Fit Frog you find the hidden cafe in
Fish Creek, deer and coyotes on Nose hill, and a hill of stairs known as the
Douglas Fir Trail.
